A NEW school in the Thornbury area has recently opened its doors for the first time.
Two Bridges Academy officially opened to 40 pupils on Monday, September 23.
The SEND school is located in Alveston next to Marlwood School.
The school - which is run by the Enable Trust - has facilities such as a hydrotherapy pool, sensory diet area, a sensory room, a hall and a community café.
It will support and teach pupils aged between two to 19 who have severe or multiple learning disabilities.
There will be phased entry over three years, eventually providing places for 112 pupils.
Trust chair Dave Tubb said: “The Board of Trustees are thrilled that its Two Bridges Academy is now open for pupils with special needs and to educate and support them as they progress towards adulthood in such amazing facilities.”
The trust also runs New Siblands School in Thornbury and Culverhill School in Yate.
The school will offer holistic educational experiences including inclusion with local schools, educational trips, and activities that prepare older pupils for work or further education.
Construction for the school started back in May last year.
