TWO CONSECUTIVE Saturdays in September with glorious sunshine were the backdrop for Sodbury Tennis Clubs annual junior and adult tournaments finals.
Many spectators enjoyed watching the finals in near perfect conditions.
All playing members are invited to enter the annual tournaments held for adults and juniors with finals day being one of the clubs’ annual highlights.
In the junior tournament there are age group events for juniors in singles, doubles and mixed, and a round robin competition.
Rounds are played through the summer holidays and the winners play on finals Saturday
Junior finalists aged from five to 18 years impressed with good tennis technique as well as close and exciting matches.
The professional coaching set-up at STC based at the Ridings Chipping Sodbury shone a light on how well their younger members performed on the day.
Spectators enjoyed great tennis from all the juniors giving their best while a fish and chip van was on hand to provide sustenance!

Within the adult tournament those who entered are paired into men’s, mixed and ladies doubles and the blue-ribbon events men’s and ladies’ singles.
The rounds begin as the main summer Avon LTA summer league closes, the participants are match fit and ready to go!
Throughout the tournament matches are keenly supported by STC members willing their favourites on from the sunny clubhouse veranda.
The senior tournament finals day started with men’s doubles, father and son Clint and Ben Webber narrowly losing to Dan Hutchinson and serial doubles champion Gary Wilshire
Abi Mathews, “One of our Own” coming from STC junior ranks to Ladies team captain and five times tournament singles champion beat a valiant Di Pugh Hudson in the ladies’ singles battle between the two first team players.
Abi was also awarded the Dave Tanner finals day trophy.
The mixed doubles final went to three sets Karen Stagg and Gary Wilshire saved match points to overcome Deb Williamson and Ben Webber in a compelling final set.
Reining men’s singles champion Ducan Boffin found it hard going against debutant entrant and STC head coach Pete Caseley losing in 2 sets.
The final match of the day was the Ladies Doubles Abi Mathews and Clare Saphire did not have it all their own way against Anna Webster and excellent junior Pati Gimenes.
After a tight first set win 7-5 with brilliant determination Anna and Pati took the second set to bring a third set decider which Abi and Claire deservedly won.
A fitting end to two finals tennis tournaments enjoyed by STC members, families, and friends.
