Motorists are being advised to take extra care this morning after flash flooding in the Dursley area.

Pictures on social media show standing water in areas including the bottom of Taits Hill, Yew Tree junction and Manor Avenue but other areas are also affected.

Yesterday the M5 was closed southbound between J14 Falfield and J15 (M4).

A spokesperson for Gloucestershire police said: "Take caution if travelling on the county's roads due to heavy rainfall, standing water and flooding.

"If you're out and about then please allow yourself extra time to travel and keep plenty of distance between yourself and the vehicle in front as stopping distances are longer in rainy and wet conditions.

"A number of the county's roads are currently affected by flooding, if you do need to go out then it's best to find an alternative route instead of driving through flood water.

"We're expecting to have an increase in demand for our services as the day goes on so please remember to only call 999 in an emergency or where there is risk to life.

"Don't forget that you can report non-emergencies by visiting our website at https://www.gloucestershire.police.uk/.../soh/seen-or-heard or by calling us on 101.
