A WOMAN has spoken out after being told to leave a Greggs she entered to buy a sandwich because she was there with her dog.
Gloucester city councillor Rebecca Trimnell (LD, Westgate) says she was told to leave the queue at the King’s Walk Shopping Centre branch on Sunday because she was with her dog Pablo.
Luckily a “kind” woman bought a sandwich for her.
But she says Greggs should be more dog friendly and not discriminate against pet owners.
“I was very disappointed with Greggs when I was told to leave the queue due to having my dog,” she said.
“If it wasn’t for the kindness of a lady in the queue I would have had to go home and then come back out again to get some lunch.
“I would like to see it be more dog-friendly. The last thing I was going to do was just leave Pablo tied up to a post outside.
“I am a customer like everyone else and they shouldn’t discriminate against me because I am a dog owner.
“Pablo is not a dirty dog and doesn’t urinate in indoor places. In other areas of the country dogs are welcome in many more places than here in Gloucester.
“Change is needed. I hope Greggs, if this is their policy, will change it as all I wanted was a sandwich for lunch.”
A spokesperson for Greggs said they allow assistance and service dogs in all their customer areas.
“At Greggs, we strive to provide a welcoming and inclusive environment for all our customers," they said.
"Our policy is to welcome customers with assistance or service dogs in all customer areas of our shops.”
