A RADIO presenter in Thornbury recently marked the launch of its new digital network by getting waxed live on air.

Listeners across South Gloucestershire can now listen to the community station on digital radio - also known as DAB - after a new multiplex was launched.

The DAB coverage region covers a large part of South Gloucestershire, along with the crossroads of the M4 and M5 corridors.

This includes the Thornbury and Yate area along with parts of Berkeley and Wotton.

Simon Criddle, mid-morning presenter on Thornbury Radio agreed to have his legs and chest waxed after the public helped raise £3,000 to support the project.

The on-air stunt was carried out by the team from Foxhills Spa at the Old Down Estate.

Simon was also cheered on by fellow presenter Greg Robinson.

The small scale DAB digital radio project was organised by South Glos Digital Community Interest Company - which is owned by Thornbury Radio.

“Our new network has ample capacity, so we want to give smaller commercial stations, charities and community groups another option of reaching their customers and supporters by giving them the ability to have their own radio service covering South Gloucestershire."

Thornbury Radio already covers 45,000 people in and around Thornbury and has many volunteers working together at the station.

The DAB transmissions now give listeners of the popular local station the option to listen on DAB as well as FM, smart speaker and online.

Radio stations that would be interested in joining the DAB mux that Thornbury Radio is on, can contact the group on their website.
