WORKS to upgrade gas pipes in Dursley which caused disruption have been completed ‘ahead of schedule’, officials say.
The work - which took place in the May Lane area - began on September 4 and has now officially been completed.
The project included multi-way traffic lights in May Lane, and a footpath closure in The Slade.
Wales & West Utilities says the works were ‘essential’ to ensure gas is kept flowing safely to heat and power properties in the area.
However, officials have warned that more work will need to be carried out at the beginning of next year.
“Dates are not planned yet but will likely involve working over the course of a weekend,” a spokesperson said.
Mick Gallavin from Wales & West Utilities said: “We are pleased to finish this work on time.
“We would like to thank the local community for bearing with us as we carried out this work.
“While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across the wider area.
“Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.
“This work was essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport hydrogen and biomethane, so we can all play our part in a green future.”
Wales & West Utilities, the gas emergency and pipeline service, brings energy to 7.5m people across the south west of England and Wales.
The company previously upgraded gas pipes in Cam as part of a £195,000 project in 2019.
