FAMILES recently came together to make new bug hotels and sow wildflower seeds at two green spaces in Thornbury
The event took place at Chantry Playing Field and Mundy Playing Field on October 30, hosted by Thornbury Town Council.
Before the event, the outdoor team of the Town Council prepared the bug hotels by repurposing used pallets and stacking them.
Town Council staff also collected materials like leaves, pine cones, twigs, cardboard boxes to ensure participants had everything they needed.
In the morning at Chantry Playing Field, participants filled the bug hotels with the gathered materials. Some attendees brought cardboard tubes to add to the hotels.
People also voted for names for each bug hotel.
Among the 30 name ideas submitted, eight were shortlisted and opened to voting.
The five winning names are Air Bee’n’Bee, Bugingham Palace, The Wiggly Wonderland, The Beetle bnb and Critter Castle.
In the afternoon at Mundy Playing Field, attendees sowed wildflower seeds to help support local wildlife and improve green spaces in the area.
A representative from Thornbury Town Council said, “We are happy to see people come together to help our local wildlife.
"We want to thank everyone who participated and those who helped prepare for this event.
"Your support makes a real difference in our community.
"The bug hotels are now ready to welcome their tiny lodgers!"
