PLANS have been revealed to toughen up parking rules near a primary school in Cam after concerns were raised about safety.
Gloucestershire County Council is currently asking for views on introducing restrictions on several roads near Cam Woodfield Junior and Infant School.
The proposed scheme includes double yellow lines (no waiting at any time) along sections of Strawberry Field, El Stub Lane, Tyndale Road and the Crapen.
If approved, this would be active from Monday to Friday from 8.15am to 9.15am and from 2.45pm and 3.30pm.
Officials say the proposed measures are a result of concerns raised by the police and local representatives
It is hoped the scheme, if approved, will improve safety for both drivers and pedestrians, particularly young school children.
It will also make the road easier for emergency service vehicles to access.
The plans also includes introducing single yellow lines (no waiting) along Strawberry Field.
If approved this would be active Monday to Friday from 8.15am to 9.15am and from 2.45pm and 3.30pm.
Meanwhile, the existing “school keep clear” yellow markings would stay with a no stopping zone active from Monday to Friday from 8.15am to 9.15am and from 2.45pm and 3.30pm.
Around 15 new signage posts would also be installed across the four residential roads.
Officials say they have carried out a consultation process with neighbours affected by the proposals.
The scheme is part of GCC’s safer routes to school initiative.
Similar proposals have been submitted for Longlevens Junior School, Widden Primary School both in Gloucester and Stratton Primary School in Cirencester.
A council document reads: “The measures proposed are as a result of concerns raised by the police and local representatives, regarding inappropriate parking within the vicinity of schools during drop off/pick up times.
“This should provide safer, unobstructed access to the main school entrance and crossing points at key times during the school day.
“This will improve safety, amenity, and navigability for vehicles (including cyclists) and pedestrians, particularly school children.
“They will also help to prevent congestion outside the school.”
