A GROUP of volunteers in Almondsbury have spoken of their delight after receiving a prestigious award.

Almondsbury Community Shop has been awarded The King’s Award for Voluntary Service for 2024.

This is the highest award a local voluntary group can receive in the UK and is equivalent to an MBE.

Almondsbury Community Shop is entirely volunteer-run and not only provides an essential service to local residents with locally sourced products but also serves as a community hub.

The shop is among local charities, social enterprises and voluntary groups across the UK to receive the prestigious award this year.

Representatives of Almondsbury Community Shop will receive the award crystal and certificate from Edward Gillespie, Lord-Lieutenant of Gloucestershire in 2025.

Brian Wyatt, chair of Almondsbury Community Shop said: “Our community shop is totally run by a wonderful team of volunteers.

“Not only do they ensure the shop runs so seamlessly but they provide a friendly face to all our customers and, in so doing, create a unique community hub for residents of the village.

“I am delighted our group’s work has been recognised and receiving this award is a real tribute to all the hard work and commitment of our team of volunteers.”
