A NEW community fire station for Dursley is on course to open in Spring next year.
Work has progressed quickly on the fire station that is being built in Kingshill Lane, behind Rednock School.
Once completed, it will have three engine bays to service Dursley, Cam and the surrounding villages.
"The project is well underway with the foundations and steel frame already completed," said Gerald Williams, senior project manager.
"The project is on programme. Roofing will follow on shortly so that many internal trades can continue in the dry.
"Construction completion is scheduled for March 20, 2009. Relocation from the old fire station we anticipate will take one week so full operational occupation should be by the beginning of April."
Once the old fire station has been relocated it will allow Sainsbury’s to begin work on their new supermarket, which will be located on the site of the old fire station in Castle Street.
Cllr Will Windsor-Clive, Gloucestershire County Council’s cabinet member for community safety, said: "I am very pleased that we are progressing well with this project.
"Along with the other projects it shows our continual support and investment to community safety.
"I would also like to thank Rednock School for their co-operation in this project, which is a fundamental part of the developments in that area.
"I look forward to seeing the finished product and the benefits it will bring to the people of Dursley and Cam."
