WANNABE first time buyers are being given the chance to get a foot on the housing ladder.

South Gloucestershire Council is hosting an open day at a new housing development in Thornbury on Thursday, July 24.

Working along side New Futures, the HomeBuy agent for the area, the council hopes to help first time buyers and key workers get on the property ladder through shared equity.

Officers from the council’s enabling team and representatives from New Futures will be present at the Bath Court development, on Bath Road, to give advice.

Matthew Riddle, South Gloucestershire Council’s executive member for community care and housing, said: "It is wrong that owning your own home is out of reach for so many hardworking key workers and first time buyers. Help needs to be directed at those many thousands of people who do not need low-cost homes for rent, but cannot afford market prices.

"The aim of this event is to give people the answers they need so they too can realise their dream of owning their own home."

People interested in the properties at the Bath Court development must buy an equity share of between 50 and 75 percent but will have 100 percent title to the property. The share prices at Bath Court will start from £90,000.

The open day is taking place at Bath Court, Bath Road, Thornbury, Thursday, July 24, from 2pm until 6pm.
