A SERENE setting will provide the perfect backdrop for Yate’s first ever picnic in the park.
The Phil Dando Big Band will play a selection of the country’s best-loved hits in Kingsgate Park on Sunday, September 7 (3-7pm).
The band, led by trombonist Phil Dando, includes trumpet players, saxophonists and singers. The swing band will entertain with a huge playlist of classic numbers including I’ve Got You Under My Skin, Let’s Face The Music and Dance, New York New York, It’s Not Unusual and Come Fly With Me.
The whole community is invited to the free event, which is being staged and funded by Yate Town Council in a bid to promote the park, dubbed the jewel in the town’s crown.
Music lovers are asked to bring their own picnic and sit back and enjoy the sounds of the 15-piece band.
Organiser and town councillor John Ford said: "This will be a great family event and everyone is welcome to come along. "Yate Town Council is keen to promote Kingsgate Park as a pleasant open space facility in the heart of Yate, at the same time as encouraging a sense of community spirit amongst residents.
"It is hoped very much that local people will offer support by attending."
In June, more than 2,000 revellers were treated to a line-up of local talent and tribute bands for the third annual community music festival.
This is the first time the council has held the picnic in the park but if successful, it could become an annual show.
