IT is all adding up for youngsters at a Yate primary school.
The teaching of mathematics at Kings Court Primary School, in Sundridge Park, is said to have improved dramatically in the past three years, according to education watchdog Ofsted.
Inspector Shirley Billington said: "Improving teaching and learning has been a key priority over the past three years.
"A range of strategies have been used including individual support, setting targets, coaching, support from senior staff through planning and partnership teaching and formal challenge of persistently weak performance."
The school was given a good rating for mathematics with standards at an average level following a subject survey last month.
The school was chosen to be inspected on maths randomly by Ofsted, which uses a sample of schools to assess subject learning locally and nationally.
Mrs Billington said Kings Court was working hard to address a "legacy of underachievement" in Years 3 to 6.
She said: "Strategies to address gaps in pupils’ learning are proving ver successful.
"Standards have risen from an exceptionally low level in 2006 and are now broadly average.
"The majority of pupils attain at least average levels at the end of Year 6."
Areas for improvement included challenging more able pupils, particularly in Year 6 and using Information and Communication Technology (ICT) more widely.
