AN Indian restaurant is due to open despite competition from two similar premises nearby.

Real Spice is set to open in four weeks time in Long Street, Dursley, which is already home to two Indian restaurants.

The owner, Ar Miah, runs The Raj Doot in Stroud, which has been open for over 30 years.

He hopes that despite the economic climate and competition from neighbours his restaurant and takeaway will be a success.

"We will offer freshly cooked food, made by experienced chefs," said Mr Miah. "We have a menu of over 100 dishes for customers to chose from including a wide variety of vegetarian options."

The restaurant, which will seat around 75 people, will serve a mix of South Indian, Bangladeshi, Balti and tandoori dishes.

Real Spice has taken over the premises formerly owned by The Cookshop at 25 Long Street.

Dursley Town Council said it welcomes anyone who is willing to open a business in the town and supports them in their venture.
