A FLURRY of fundraising activities was held last weekend as people enjoyed the sunshine and dug deep for Meningitis UK.
In Berkeley visitors to the castle were treated to an Easter-themed fair to help raise money for the Gazette's meningitis campaign.
At the castle there was a tombola, home-made cake stall, an Easter egg hunt around the grounds and morris dancing.
Margaret Glover, who works at Berkeley Castle and helped to organise the charity fair, said: "It was great, we had a really good weekend. People were very generous."
The Easter fair raised £500, which will be equally divided between Meningitis UK and Night Shelter, a homeless charity based in Gloucester.
In Thornbury drinkers at the Anchor Inn did their bit for charity.
Throughout the Bank Holiday, for every pint of cask ale sold landlord Dave Cox donated 4p to the meningitis campaign.
The event also marked the end of National Cask Ale Week, which aimed to promote the importance of British pubs in the community.
Mr Cox said: "We had a really good weekend and the amount we raised, £205, was absolutely superb."
The donations from the cask ale pints raised £75, a donation of £50 was also made by non-ale drinkers and an in-house bowls match raised £80.
Mr Cox, along with some of his regulars, will be completing an 11-mile bike ride around the area in July to raise money for Meningitis UK.
To continue the fundraising efforts this weekend a Motown evening is being held at the Full Moon, Wotton-under-Edge, on Saturday (8.30pm). There will be a buffet and soultrain disco. The night will be fancy dress and there will also be a raffle.
