OLDBURY has been shortlisted by the government to be the site of a next generation nuclear power station.
The Department of Energy and Climate Change announced today its list of 11 nominated sites where new nuclear power stations could be built by 2018.
Oldbury’s inclusion on the list has been welcomed by the local community.
Malcolm Lynden, chairman of the Oldbury Site Stakeholder Group, said: "I am delighted at the news. I think it has been pretty much expected with all the activity that has been happening with E.ON.
"This community has lived with a power station for the last 40 years we shall be very happy to have it here in the community."
Members of the public now have one month to comment on the government’s shortlist prior to a more detailed consultation on the draft Nuclear National Policy Statement, which will be launched later in the year.
