A GROUP of car salesmen are about to swap the forecourt for two wheels and a leather saddle.
Today, Saturday, April 25, Nigel Hawkins, of Berkeley Vale Motors, along with Diana Conway, also from the dealership and colleague Jim Price set off on a 960-mile bike ride.
The three cyclists set off from Lands End, in Cornwall, and hope to reach John O’Groats in Scotland within 14 days all in aid of charity.
"Di and I both keep fit and both like physical challenges. I climbed Mount Kilimanjaro before it was made fashionable by Chris Moyles.
"We also thought it was something we could together and at first it started as a holiday because we like active holidays but then we decided to do it for charity.
"We have all had family and friends affected by cancer so it made the charity an obvious choice," said Nigel.
The bike ride will be raising money for Cancer Research and even though the cyclists have no target amount they say people are being very supportive.
"People have been generous they’ve heard what we’re doing and have just given us donations," said Diana.
Thornbury Leisure Centre, where both Diana and Nigel are members, held a two-hour static spinning challenge and raised £143 in support of the cycle ride.
