POLICE are warning homeowners in Yate and Chipping Sodbury to lock their doors ahead of a summer crime spree.
Thefts from garages and sheds always increase as the weather warms up and police in the area are keen to crackdown on opportunist thieves this year.
They are also appealing to residents to make sure windows and doors are locked when they are not in the room, as cases of burglars snatching handbags and keys at houses left open also rise at this time of year.
Acting Sergeant at Chipping Sodbury police station, Neil Whyman, said: "We are starting to see warmer weather and people tend to start leaving doors and windows open.
"They often go out in the garden while their property is left unsecured.
"We are warning people to make sure they always lock their sheds and garages and their houses when they are outside.
"Do not leave any valuables on display as this will attract opportunist thieves."
