YOUR local bobbies on the beat have won an award for their policing efforts.
The neighbourhood beat team in Chipping Sodbury have been named the best in South Gloucestershire and were highly commended throughout the entire Avon and Somerset force.
The team, made up of PC Mike Hart and police community support officers Richard Gay and Paul Fortune, received the accolade in the constabulary’s annual community policing awards.
Acting Sergeant Neil Whyman said: "They are a very good team who work very well together.
"They are very orientated in making their community a better place, reducing crime in the area and serving the people who live here."
He added: "It is really nice to know that their hard work has been recognised by the public."
The team was nominated for the award by members of the public, who remain anonymous. It recognises the trio’s efforts over the course of the past year.
Beat manager, PC Hart, said: "We really appreciate that people are taking the time out to nominate us.
"It is very heartening to know that people have wanted to thank us for our achievement in reducing crime and making Chipping Sodbury a better place to live."
The team received a certificate marking their achievement, which was presented by Chief Superintendent Andy Francis.
Chief Constable Colin Port said: "We are keen to ensure that the needs of the community are at the heart of policing here in Avon and Somerset.
"Both staff and officers are working hard to form strong links with their communities and partner agencies to tackle the things that really matter to local residents."
