A DURSLEY transport service for the disabled and elderly faces closure if more volunteers do not come forward.
The Dursley and District Association for the Transport of the Disabled and Elderly (DATE) say they will have to seriously consider the future of the service if more volunteers are not found.
Ken Pollard, treasurer of the association, said: "A lot of our drivers are aged between 60 and 70 and it’s becoming much more difficult for them to continue.
"What we need is people in their 40s and 50s volunteering. If we could get another four or five drivers that would be great, but we are happy for volunteers to do anything for us, whether it be driving the minibus or being treasurer."
DATE, who have been running the service for the last 40 years, believe people will be severely affected if the service is forced to close.
"Housebound people will lose the function to go out because other services are more costly. It is really important we keep this transport service up and running," added Mr Pollard.
As well as appealing for volunteers, DATE has also urged more people to use the service.
Mr Pollard said: "Over the last few years our mileage has gone down. If people don’t use it, they will lose it altogether."
The association has invited anyone who is interested in volunteering to attend their AGM on Wednesday, June 3, at St Marks Church, Woodmancote, from 7.30pm.
Alternatively anyone who would like to help can contact Mr Pollard on 01453 542455.
