DEVELOPERS building a new Tesco distribution centre in Pilning have said work is set to restart this month.

Work to build the centre, off the B4055 Marsh Common Road, had ground to a halt some weeks ago but despite local concerns that the project might have been put on hold work should re-commence next week.

Emma Webster, from Green Issues Communications which represents project leaders Santon Group Developments Ltd and Spen Hill Developments Ltd, said: "As part of the planned programme of works, the site has been loaded with stone for the ground to settle. This process needs between 8-12 weeks for completion. "Work will re-commence on site from May 11."

The Tesco distribution centre is part of a 100-acre development, which will be known as Portal West Distribution Park.

It is hoped the new industrial site will bring hundreds of new jobs to the area once it is completed.
