PUPILS at Horton Primary School have been putting their best foot forward after being awarded a special walking grant.
The school is one of eight across South Gloucestershire to be given funding from the Department of Transport to encourage more children to walk to school.
It has been operating a walking bus, where children are guided along certain routes to the village school, since 2003.
Headteacher Jane Leo said: "The walking bus provides a safe and healthy option for our pupils to get to school.
"Walking to school is a great start to the day. Children can meet up and socialise with their friends and arrive at school alert and ready to learn."
The pupils are dropped off and collected from the village hall which reduces the safety risk of parents parking outside the school gates.
The grant will help continue the running of the walking bus.
Other schools to have been given funding to start a walking bus or carry on running walk to school initiatives include Rangeworthy and Charfield schools, Highcroft Junior School in Frampton Cotterell and Broadway Infant School in Yate.
