ASPIRING David Baileys have been snapped up by Sodbury and Yate Camera Club.

The club has just announced the winners of an annual search to find the area’s young photographer of the year, which was entered by schoolchildren from across the district.

Nathan D’Costa, a pupil at Katharine Lady Berkeley's School, was awarded the overall title in the over 14s category for a shot of a pheasant in a frosty field. Lauren Park and William Theobold, both from Brimsham Green School in Yate, won second and third prize.

In the under 14s category, The Ridings High School pupil Zaid Bahssali won both first and third places and his sister Marwa came second.

Sheala Denning, publicity officer for the club, said: "The standard of entries was absolutely brilliant.

"There was no theme but we received a lot of photographs of landscapes and portraits.

"The idea of the competition is to encourage youngsters to take up photography and to try and find the next David Bailey."

An exhibition of the young photographic competition and other work by club members is on display at Yate Heritage Centre until the end of May.
