A TEENAGER who went to a party in Wotton-under-Edge was blackmailed at knifepoint after being accused of taking a bag of cannabis worth £10, a court heard.

Jason Goodland was threatened and made to go to a cashpoint to withdraw money to pay for the missing cannabis, Gloucester Crown Court was told.

Adam Wills, 21, of Fountain Square, Wotton, admitted blackmail and was jailed for a total of 16 weeks.

Kirsty Real, prosecuting, said Jason went to a friend's house in Wotton for a party where several people including Wills were using cannabis.

"Jason was offered a bag of cannabis to look at," she said. "He took hold of it. The bag then went missing and he was accused of taking it.

"The defendant told him he had to pay a tenner for it. The defendant continued to ask for money and said if he did not give it to him he was not to leave."

She said the defendant threatened Jason Goodland with a kitchen knife, which he pointed at his throat.

Police were called when Jason got home later and Wills admitted threatening Jason with the knife.

Three months before the incident Wills had been caught in possession of a lock knife and had received a six week suspended sentence, said Ms Real.

Steve Young, defending, said the knife came from the kitchen of the hostess of the party and was picked up by Wills on the spur of the moment.

Jailing Wills, Judge McNaught said: "You got a knife, you pointed it at his throat, you threatened to stab him and you threatened to break his legs. He was terrified.

"It's a serious incident. What makes it more serious is that three months earlier you had been to magistrates' court and they had given you a suspended sentence for something which involved a knife."
