A MOTHER and daughter are calling for the driver of a car that smashed into them then drove off without finding out if they were injured to search their conscience and come forward.

Cathy Chinner and her daughter Molly, of North Nibley, say they were lucky not to be have killed in the terrifying car crash, which sent them careering off the road and into a stone wall.

Despite the fact the car hit them and the driver could see them hurtle into a wall, the motorist drove off without checking if they were OK or leaving insurance details.

Molly, 14, said: "Luckily we were OK after the crash, but we could have been killed and the driver wouldn’t have known because they just drove off and left us."

The accident happened at around 5.45pm on May 9 when Molly and her mother were driving in the direction of Wotton on the B4058, near the Horsley tip junction.

"I was driving straight down the road when I saw a car pulling out of the junction," said Cathy, 45.

"The driver can’t have seen me or they didn’t look properly. Suddenly the car hit the side of our car, I swerved into the side of the road and hit something that sent us skidding all over the road and eventually we hit a stone wall and came to a stop."

Molly, a student at Katharine Lady Berkeley’s School, said: "Everything just felt like it slowed down when the car hit us.

"When we hit the wall we were both ok, which was really, really lucky because we could have been seriously injured, but we were very shaken."

Several people from nearby houses came out to help but the car and the driver who caused the accident was no where to be seen.

Cathy and Molly believe the vehicle was a small to medium size car of a dark colour, either blue or black.

They are urging any witnesses to come forward and help the police with their inquiries.

Molly said: "We want to stop more people being hurt because of careless drivers. The driver who hit us wouldn’t have known if we had been killed but they still drove off."

Cathy, a teaching assistant at Rednock School, added: "We could have just been another hit-and-run statistic.

"Luckily we were OK, but our car will almost certainly be a write-off and because we don’t have the driver's insurance details we will have to fork out to pay for a new car."

Anyone who witnessed the accident or has any details that could help the police track down the driver should ring 0845 090 1234 quoting incident number 428/May 9 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
