DELIVERY lorries are continuing to be driven through the village of Wickwar, despite a weight limit banning HGVs.
Police are warning individual drivers and companies that they face a fine and points on their license if caught driving through the village, where a weight limit of 18tonnes tonnes is in place for environmental reasons on the High Street.
PCSO Haley Harrison said: "Police have been enforcing the weight limit in Wickwar periodically. Unfortunately, many lorries we were stopping were right on the weight limit.
"However, a small number of LGVs have been issued with tickets."
She said the weight limit had been ignored during the recent roadworks in neighbouring Charfield because diversions had directed drivers through Wickwar.
The issue has been raised at the police-led Safer, Stronger Community Group for the area where residents have voiced concerns that large HGVs are damaging the roads in Wickwar.
Trading Standards officers from South Gloucestershire Council have stepped up their profile in Wickwar and will continue to stop HGV drivers and issue summons to court.
