THE Dursley Festival got off to a flying start after ski-jumping star Eddie the Eagle officially launched the event. Britain’s own Olympic ski-jumping legend enjoyed sampling some tasty delicacies at the first ever Dursley Love Food Festival, which was a popular place for people to browse during the morning on Saturday.

Spicy samosas, sizzling burgers and delicious handmade cakes were all on offer to passing visitors while children enjoyed a range of activities in the grounds of St James’ Church.

Then all eyes turned to the fairytale themed procession, which made its way through the town to the rhythmic sounds of samba.

Winners of the best procession group was the Treetops Children Centre, who dressed as every fairytale character imaginable, with the runner-up trophies going to Uley Under 5’s Playgroup dressed as Jack and the Beanstork and the GL11 Community Project as the Pied Piper.

Jane Ball, town mayor, said: "It has been a really successful event, the food festival went well and everyone seems to have enjoyed themselves."

Displays on the recreation ground included the A38 Motorcycle Club, the Shokaz Dance group and salsa.

Andy Barton, who organised a Heritage Centre treasure hunt around Dursley for the festival, said: "It is fantastic that the sun came out, some people might have been put off by the thought of rain but the turn out has been good."
