CHILDREN in Olveston are being given an outstanding start in life, according to Ofsted inspectors.

Olveston Pre-School was given an 'outstanding' rating by government inspectors who visited the child care provider before the end of term.

Hilary Tierney, Ofsted inspector, wrote: "Children are progressing exceptionally well in all areas of learning and development. Staff are excellent role models and they motivate children to learn by excellent interactions and open questions to help them think and problem solve."

The report praised the pre-school’s use of the outside, in particular the raised garden where children grow vegetables and flowers and can play in a den area.

Helen Moorefield, play leader at Olveston Pre-School, said: "We see every child as unique planning activities and providing resources from children’s interests and real life experiences.

"When children learn through play in a safe and secure environment they become active learners and thinkers, which allows the children to be independent.

"The staff endeavour to meet the needs of all children sharing their knowledge and experience as a team. Myself and all the team are thrilled with the results - what a fantastic end to a fun-filled year."

Clare Evans, chairman of Olveston Pre-School, said: "We are thrilled at this report. The staff work so hard and this report reflects that commitment to what is a thriving pre-school."
