A WOMAN has died after her car crashed into a freezing pond in Inglestone Common.

The victim, believed to be in her forties, was the only person in the car when it is thought to have skidded on King Lane, near Horton, and plunged into the pond.

Firefighters pulled the woman from the car, which was partially submerged in the freezing water, but despite their efforts to revive her she was later pronounced dead.

The incident happened at 8.27pm on Wednesday, December 30.

James Blaydon, spokesman for Avon Fire and Rescue Service, said: "Fire crews from Yate and Bath fire stations were called after reports that a car had left the road and finished partially submerged in a large pond.

"On arrival crews found a single vehicle had left the road and entered a pond on the common.

"Following a search one female casualty was found although tragically despite efforts to revive her she was later pronounced dead."

He added: "A Swift Water Rescue Team from Bath Fire Station also attended the incident and entered the pond in dry suits to make a full search for other casualties. "No other casualties were found in during the search and no one else was injured in the incident."
