Officers say that looking out for other members of your community can really help keep crime down.
They recommend: • Parking in a garage or a busy, well-lit area • Always locking your car and setting the alarm or immobiliser • Clearing out any valuables – mobile phones, sat nav, laptop • Thinking like a thief – that old coat could have cash in the pockets and if there's a gadget holder on the dash there could be a phone or sat nav in the glove box or under the seat • Registering your valuables at www.immobilise.com – the free property database checked by police across the country • Joining or setting up Neighbourhood Watch There's more vehicle security advice on the police website, www.avonandsomerset.police.uk
