IT IS the end of snowman making and sledging for children in Gloucestershire as schools open their doors this morning.
All schools in Cam, Dursley, Wotton and Berkeley have re-opened today, with the exception of Cam House School.
Some are operating on reduced opening times, Hillesley Primary opens at 10am today and North Nibley Primary will open 10am-3pm.
All secondary schools have re-opened as crucial GCSE exams start this week.
Although weather over the weekend was not as severe as expected Gloucestershire County Council continues to ration salt supplies following the Government’s announcement that it has taken control of grit stocks and will distribute them on a priority basis.
All A roads and some B roads that carry 75 per cent of the county’s traffic will be gritted but smaller roads, residential areas and rural routes will not be treated.
Grit bins across the county will be refilled as they are reported empty.
However the council has received reports that people have been taking salt from the bins to use on private drives and they are asking people to be responsible with supplies which are essential for people’s safety on roads and paths.
Freezing temperatures are expected to continue into the middle of the week, with more snow forecast for Wednesday.
