MANY schools across South Gloucestershire have closed again to pupils after more snow fell on the district last night.

More than two inches of snow fell on Thornbury, Yate and Chipping Sodbury over night.

In Yate snow continued to fall during the morning rush hour causing havoc for motorists trying to get to work.

Some schools did manage to open including Gillingstool Primary in Thornbury which opened at 9.45am, Pucklechurch Primary opened at 9.30am and Severn Beach opened at 10am.

St Mary’s Primary School in Yate and St Mary’s Primary in Thornbury have both opened, St Michael’s in Winterbourne and the Ridge Junior School in Yate have opened.

Brimsham Green and Chipping Sodbury Schools have opened to years 10, 11, 12 and 13 only. Castle School in Thornbury is closed and Marlwood School is also closed except for students sitting A-Level exams.

South Gloucestershire Council has cancelled all its community transport.

However, according to the authority all adult day care centres are open and all meals on wheels are expected to be delivered as normal.

The Old Severn Bridge has been closed in both directions because of the bad weather and the M4 and M5 are down to two lanes in places because of snow covering the outside lane.
