THE air ambulance came to the rescue of injured workmen after a minibus slid off an icy road.
The accident happened on the B4461, near Elberton, this morning, January 13.
A minibus, which was carrying four workmen, was travelling along the B4661 at 7.30am when it slid on the road and crashed into a tree.
The workmen suffered leg and head injuries but because it was still dark, the helicopter was unable to fly to the accident so the Great Western Air Ambulance (GWAA) team went to the scene by car.
The GWAA doctor and critical care paramedic helped to treat three of the workmen and gave pain relief to two of them. Three land ambulances also attended the scene and the GWAA team went with the casualties to Frenchay Hospital.
