DERELICT rooms at a community centre in Yate are now up and running following to a huge refurbishment project.
The area known as the cottage at Ridgewood Community Centre, on Station Road, was in such a poor state it could only be used for storage for many years.
But an increase in demand by local groups looking for places to meet has led to an impressive improvement programme.
Centre manager Anne-Marie Cook said: "Over the years the roof had been leaking and the entire cottage end of the building had become damp. The area had no working heating and that had left the building bordering on becoming derelict.
"As demand for community space has grown the committee took the decision that this area must be renovated to offer the community further space that could be occupied."
With the help of Goodfield Builders, of Wickwar, the cottage has now been restored to its former glory offering two rooms, a kitchen and a toilet. Added Anne-Marie: "The rooms were in very poor condition and we are really pleased with the results.
"The rooms are outstanding, with many original features preserved, and we are very proud of the finished project."
The rooms are now available for hire - contact the community centre on 01454 868650 or email ridgewood@live.co.uk
