BANISH those winter blues with a trip to the theatre to see children’s classic Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
Full of feel-good fun, sing-alongs and lots of laughs, audiences will forget its cold outside as they are whisked away to a land of madness and magic on board the most fabulous car ever built.
The story centres on eccentric inventor Caractacus Potts (Darren Bennett) and his two excitable children Jemima and Jeremy. The trio falls in love with the aptly named Truly Scrumptious (Katie Ray) and set off for an adventure in the Potts’ new car which has been pulled off the scrap heap. But unbeknown to them, Chitty is more than just an engine and is about to save the day.
The unwitting group travels to Vulgaria, where children are banished by the wonderfully mad Baron and Baroness Bomburst and a childcatcher roams the streets looking for any sniff of the kiddie widdie rascals.
Highly preposterous and full of dastardly adventures, this touring production will have children singing in their seats and parents laughing out loud.
Chitty Chitty is packed with songs everyone knows from the film including Truly Scrumptious, Toot Sweets and of course the title tune Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
Whilst comedy duo Goran (Nigel Garton) and Boris (Richard Ashton) win most of the laughs with their brilliant attempt to mimic our English eccentricities, the real star of the show is the car itself.
With wings to fly and a boat to float, Chitty is the most expensive stage prop ever made and it is easy to see why Chitty Chitty Bang Bang ‘We Love You’.
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is on at the Bristol Hippodrome until January 30. For tickets call the box office on 0844 847 2325.
