CHRISTMAS is coming a little late for Yate boy Mitchell Webber, but it will be worth waiting for.

The 11-year-old and his family are taking a trip of a lifetime to Disneyland in Florida this spring after their local pub raised thousands of pounds for the holiday.

Staff at the Brimsham Park organised a series of charity events late last year to send Mitchell, who suffers from muscular dystrophy, on the once in a lifetime experience.

His dad Simon said: "On behalf of Mitchell, I’d like to say thank you to everyone at the Brimsham Park, especially Victoria and Ellie who helped to organise the fundraising.

"I’d also like to say thank you to all the businesses and customers who have donated; this contribution means we can take Mitchell on a family holiday to remember."

Mitchell’s mum Corrina and his sister Sophie, 14, will also be travelling to America in April. The family, who live in south Yate, had not planned the holiday and said they were very grateful to everyone at the pub for their generosity.

Manager Victoria Stockdale said: "All of us at Brimsham Park are absolutely thrilled we’re able to help the Webbers take Mitchell away – we hope this will make a great start to their 2010 and that they have a fantastic holiday.

"I’d also like to say a big well done to Ellie Fowler and all my other team members for making this happen, they have worked really hard to raise the money and created lots of fun events which have brought the whole community together."

She added: "A final thank you goes to all our customers for their generous donations and to the local businesses for offering some amazing prizes for our numerous raffles and auction nights. "Acts of generosity like this shows how community spirit is still thriving and this is a great example of how much can be achieved when we come together."

The pub hosted numerous events including car washes, fetes and auction nights to raise £3,000 for the holiday. The Webber family, who are regulars at the pub, were presented with a cheque in December.
