A 21-YEAR-OLD Dursley man who broke into a woman's car and stole two watches and a radio was so drunk that he has only a 'vague recollection' of the crime, Gloucester magistrates were told.

Patrick Williams, of Silver Street, admitted theft of the property from Jade Davis' car in Dursley on August 13 last year.

He was sentenced to do 40 hours of unpaid work and to pay £200 compensation to the victim.

Malcolm Hayes, prosecuting, said one of the watches taken from the car was worth £400 and had not been recovered.

Williams was caught because his fingerprints were found on the outside of the car door and on a puncture repair kit in the glove box, said Mr Hayes.

Steve Young, mitigating, said: "He had been drinking on the day in question and he believes it was alcohol which influenced his decision to break into that car.

"His recollection of what happened is rather vague."
