FUNDRAISERS hit all the right notes on Saturday, when the people of Wotton came together to raise money for the disaster-stricken country of Haiti.

The Town Hall was packed out, as people young and old went along to see what bargains were to be had at stalls which included jewellery, film posters, books, baby clothes, knitwear and bric-a-brac, as well as enjoy all the refreshments available.

Elsewhere in the town, singers of all ages also went along to the Baptist Church, where more than 100 of them produced a charity song, ‘Hope carries on’, which is now available as a free download on the internet.

"The event was a great success," said Stuart Bexom, who helped to organise the singing event.

"The rehearsal and recording was all done in two-and-a-half hours and Katie Elliot and team spent the weekend editing and uploading the song.

"We are hoping to get this song out to Haiti via the UK Commission and also get it known around the UK."

The two events have so far raised over £1,700, including £250 raised from the singers alone.

"At the end of the day, it was Wotton doing what it does the best," added Janet Walshe, who helped organise the event at the Town Hall.

"The atmosphere was very positive and very happy, despite the terrible situation in Haiti, which why we were all there.

"A big thank you must go out to all those who gave donations and provided refreshments, and to all the helpers who worked so hard beofore and on the day."
