PROGRESS towards the regeneration of Dursley has moved on apace this week.
Demolition work has been carried out on both the town's old library and the Victoria Works building on the former Bymacks site, while a planning application has been submitted for a new fire station.
Hopefully this will mark a positive change in momentum as Dursley seeks to bring itself into the 21st century.
For too long councils and other organisations have been locked in discussions about the possibility of facilities arriving in the town.
However, last year the proposed supermarket seemed no closer to arriving than it did when it was first talked about in the 1990s.
A lot of people in the town simply do not believe anything will happen because they do not have any evidence in front of them.
Now though, residents can see that the old library is gone, creating space for the new one to take shape and they will have been able to witness the Bymacks building coming down to make way for new residential development.
The supermarket even seems to be coming to fruition as the current fire station has to be replaced to make way for it.
Dursley has waited for years to have new investment pumped into it and it finally looks like the wait will have been worthwhile.
