Exeter City 2 Forest Green Rovers 0
FOREST Green came unstuck against FA Cup heroes Exeter on Saturday to leave them perilously close to the foot of the Conference table.
Jake Edwards and Dean Moxey scored the goals as the Grecians won for the sixth time in their last seven games, having also given Manchester United an almighty scare in the FA Cup third round last month.
Edwards turned a Les Afful cross past Steve Perrin for the first, though the inspirational goalkeeper then did well to save from home captain Sean Devine.
Forest Green almost pulled one back just before the break but Paul Jones managed to parry Kevin Rapley's 20-yard drive.
Moxey extended Exeter's lead just after the break, heading home Alex Jeannin's corner, before Rovers' highest scorer Charlie Griffin missed a good chance late on.
Forest Green Rovers 4 Newport County 3
ROVERS made it into the next round of the GLS Cup last week thanks to a goal in extra-time by Jon Beswetherick, which finally killed off a resilient Newport outfit.
Earlier goals by Beswetherick, Charlie Griffin and newcomer Lee Davis had left the two sides level at 3-3 at the end of normal time, Newport having equalised with only a few minutes left.
Now Rovers will face either Aldershot or Exeter City in the fourth round at The Lawn.
L Davis has joined Rovers on non-contract terms after being released from Cheltenham Town recently.
