JUNIOR supercross rider Luke Dean looks set to have a glorious future in the sport having clinched the British Junior Supercross Championship last week.

The Wotton-under-Edge youngster, ten, is already something of a veteran on the track having been involved in supercross for four years, and his new national title has cemented his place as a genuine 'one to watch'.

Luke clinched the championship, which involves racers aged between nine and 11, at a recent track meeting in Dublin having led the points table for long periods throughout the season.

The championship series also involved meetings in Sheffield, Glasgow and Cardiff, with the overall winner being the rider who has accumulated the most points by the end of the season.

Luke, who attends Blue Coat Primary School in Wotton, has been involved with supercross and motocross for about as long as he can remember, and has a lifelong ambition of becoming a professional rider.

The principal difference between supercross and motocross is that the former occurs indoors, with 65cc bikes used for the junior category.

Luke's success in the series always looked likely, having led the points table by a large distance towards the end of the season, and he also enjoyed a hugely memorable victory at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff midway through the series, clinching first place in the meeting in one of the highlights of his young career.

The junior rider's mother, Helen, told the Gazette: "We're very proud of him. He will hopefully have a good future in the sport if he keeps going the way he's been going so far. His ambition is definitely to be a professional rider, and he'd love that!"

Luke also won the Odyssey meeting in Belfast recently to complete a fabulous start to 2005, and everything would appear to be in place for an exciting future on the track.
