PARIS is coming to Wotton-under-Edge on Monday via Fusion Gallery in Long Street.

The gallery will be showing an art exhibition called Pour l'amour de Paris.

The art has been created by students from year 13 (final year of sixth form) at Katharine Lady Berkeley's School, following a visit to Paris.

They were accompanied by textile artist Angie Hughes, who had worked with the group on the project before the trip.

Head of art Wendy Picken initially contacted Under the Edge Arts, hoping the exhibition could be held in Wotton's arts centre.

This would have made the students' art work more easily viewed by the public.

But plans were foiled by building works at the centre in The Chipping so the next port of call was the town's new gallery.

Owner Sarah McCabe is interested in being involved in community art as well as showing professional contemporary work. So, the project was launched as a joint initiative between the school, arts centre and gallery.

Sarah McCabe said: "I've encouraged a professional approach to the organisation of the exhibition, but this is an educational experience all round. We don't want to be exclusive - anyone who is associated with groups involved is welcome at the preview and, of course we hope to attract many visitors and buyers later."

The students said: "The work reflects thoughts, feelings and sights experienced in Paris, and the atmosphere of the city." Particular highlights for students included the Picasso and Rodin museums and ascending the Eiffel Tower.

The exhibition will also include the work of textile artist Angie Hughes, resident artist on the Paris trip, who has created a new piece to celebrate the experience.

Fusion Gallery is open from 9.30am to 5pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, and from 9.30am to 2pm on Saturdays, possibly longer on Saturday, February 5. The exhibition finishes on Saturday, February 12.
