Forest Green Rovers 1 Woking 3

ALAN Lewer blasted a section of Forest Green supporters after his side suffered only their second Conference defeat in 12 games.

The Rovers boss was angered by certain comments directed to his players during the 3-1 defeat at home to Woking on Saturday.

He said: "You get little comments from the crowd here which I don't like. When Stuart Roberts went on it was 'he's not good enough', but to me he made two opportunities that are good enough.

"And if people think they can do the job better than me, then they can come and do it, simple as that.

"They can have their say, but hang on a minute, when we came here they had no points whatsoever, and if anybody's telling me any different, that this is not a better side, then I'll eat my hat," he added.

"But what I'm saying to you is, if you want to speak to the chairman, if he wants to bring someone in to do it, then let him do it."

Woking's all-round strength gave Glenn Cockerill's side a worthy victory at a rain-swept Forest Green and the result sent Lewer's side further into the relegation mire.

Despite starting brightly enough Rovers were stung on 21 minutes. Jefferson Louis, returning to Nailsworth for the first time since his ill-fated spell at The Lawn, outstripped Jon Richardson for Karl Murray to strike beyond Steve Perrin.

Two minutes later Woking made it two with the impressive Justin Richards fizzing in a drive, after Richardson miscued his challenge.

However, Charlie Griffin offered Lewer's side a lifeline on 34 minutes. Damon Searle surged through midfield, leaving Griffin to hit a skidding shot that clipped Gary MacDonald on its way into the net.

On the verge of half-time Louis shook off the attention of Liam Burns only to be denied by Perrin.

Woking made it an uphill battle for Rovers when Oliver's free-header from Amos Foyewa's cross hit the back of the net.

The introduction of Stuart Roberts seemed to rally Rovers towards the end but it was too little, too late.
