Brockworth 1 Dursley Ladies 3

THIS was a fantastic victory for Dursley and one which put them clear at the top of Severn League Division Two, giving them their highest league position in their 19-year history.

Going into the match, both teams were level on points at the top, although Brockworth had the better goal difference. Dursley had lost the home fixture 2-3 earlier in the season so everything was in place for a classic match, and so it proved.

Brockworth took the lead when Dursley failed to deal with a cross from the left.

Dursley put together some sweeping moves, particularly down the right where Sharron Bates, Lisa Balfour and Liz Robinson linked up brilliantly.

It was from one such move just before half-time that Dursley scored the equaliser. Forcing a short corner, the ball was worked to Cindy Beale on the penalty spot and she shot past the keeper to put Dursley level at the break.

The visitors got off to the best possible start in the second half, when a sweetly worked short corner saw Liz Robinson provide an angled ball for Sophie Hodgson to sweep home at the far post.

Some sterling work from player of the match Liz Robinson then inspired Dursley and when Ali Dolbear produced a fabulous strike from edge of the D, the ball beat the keeper and rolled along the line before being scrambled away.

Brockworth failed to clear properly and Dursley were able to work the ball back into the D where top scorer Hodgson was again on hand to crack the ball home at the keeper's near post.

L Dursley will be forced to work hard again this week when they entertain Wootton Bassett, who are a very unpredictable side.
