SIR - I am dismayed to read that unprofitable phone kiosks (including the one in Henlow Drive, Dursley, are to be removed because everyone has mobile phones or uses email.

In my neighbourhood there are a number of elderly residents and some young people for whom this does not apply and for whom the public phone represents a lifeline.

It would be interesting to know how much will be saved by these closures in relation to the vast profits that the company makes. Perhaps to ask the directors if some consideration could be given to the silent few for whom a struggle becomes an insurmountable problem or are they too busy in their safe sterile and self-interested circle to be bothered?
