LAST weekend Everside YFC staged their annual six-a-side football tournament at the Jubilee Fields. Despite the poor weather there was a record number of entries, with some 74 teams taking part over the two days.

Everside have thanked sponsors Millwood Mitsubishi and all the event helpers, who gave their time voluntarily to enable some 592 youngsters to take part in the tournament.

Everside U10s won their part of the tournament at the weekend for the second year running. In the preliminary stages they secured victory against Rodborough, Frampton, Eastcombe and Thornbury.

In the semi-final they had a tough game against Severnside Nuclear who were leading for most of the game. In the last few minutes Everside's keeper, Daniel Hobbs, hit a long kick that found Ben Deakin whose overhead kick chipped the keeper to bring the scores level. With no goals in extra time a penalty shootout followed. Again Everside's Daniel Hobbs was the hero, saving four out of five penalties from Severnside. Everside's penalty scorers were Sam Blackie and Seth Mack.

The final was against neighbours Slimbridge where Everside won 1-0, scoring in injury time in the first half from an outstanding shot by Tyler Poole.

Everside U10s then ran out 5-1 winners against Ebley in the Severn Vale Shield staged at Gloucester City FC, the day after their success in the Everside Tournament.
