SIR - A colleague has given me some information and I am wondering if it is only me that is unaware of the fact that, if a man during his working life has paid his National Health stamp for 25 years (or more) on the event of his death, his widow (or dependant relative I suppose) can apply for a grant of £2,000 towards funeral expenses.
My colleague read this in a local newspaper and, being himself unaware of this information, took the trouble to check it out with the Citizens Advice Bureau and they have confirmed this is so.
Maybe there are a few readers who, like myself, are not aware of this grant.
