THREE of Dursley's public payphones could be lost under proposals given to Dursley Town Council by BT.
In a letter BT project liaison officer Rick Thompson explained that the cuts were part of a national cull of unprofitable payphones.
Residents and the council have until the end of the public consultation period on Friday, June 11, to make their views known.
The three payphones under threat are in Upper Poole Road, School Road and, most bizarrely, at the bus station in May Lane.
Town Mayor Cllr Timothy Frankau said: "The idea of taking one away from the bus station beggars belief."
