SIR - My 'special promotion', which would assist tourism all over the Gloucestershire area but, of course, Cam and Dursley in particularly is The Lister Story.
I would like to start this off with a Lister Equipment Rally which I believe would draw a great deal of interest, possibly scheduled for next May or June and held at the site of the home of Lister over a two-day period..
An open invitation would be extended to anyone in this country or abroad who owns a piece of Lister equipment, ie stationary engines, milking equipment, generating tackle, shearing tools, garden furniture or any other Lister artefacts - the list is endless - and this rally I am sure would create an enormous interest both here and abroad.
After the event I would hope to establish a permanent home for an exhibition on the site to tell the story of this world famous company - and its thousands of staff who made it all possible.
From this catalyst a fresh and proud start could be made in this community, which would provide a pride and enthusiasm rather than an option of houses, houses and more houses.
The Lister Heritage Leisure Park could be achievable with, of course, the help of the Regional Development Agency, Gloucestershire County Council, the Market and Coastal Towns Initiative and the commitment and enthusiasm of the local community, who wish their future to be as vibrant and exciting as the past.
