Wotton 3 - 0 West Glos

Wotton bounced straight back from their first league defeat of the season to record a convincing victory against one of the two sides level with them at the top of the table at the start of play.

The home team welcomed back a couple of players and it showed as Wotton looked more comfortable on the ball, especially around the back. This allowed them to control the game more effectively and limit West Glos's attacking chances.

That said, West Glos had the first few short corners, but failed to convert any of them. Wotton took full advantage of this and promptly found the back of the net with their first effort, Mark Gausden with a neat finish. The game was fairly matched throughout the first half, with each team testing the other out and both having chances, Wotton keeper French equal to the one real chance, a one on one.

Going into the second half, Wotton strived to keep hold of the ball, making West Glos work very hard to gain possesion. This again limited their chances to a few short corners which were ably dealt with by the Wotton defence.

Russel Sanderson was looking particularly effective in his new midfield attacking role, creating many overlaps which lead to heaps of pressure on the visitors defence.

This told with the second goal for Wotton coming from another short corner, the same routine bringing the same result as before with Mark Gausden grabbing his second of the game to put Wotton in the driving seat.

Wotton tied up the game after this, and Mark Gausden rounded off his birthday weekend with his hat-trick goal from open play and still had time to miss a couple more.

This weekend Wotton travel to play Weston-Super-Mare in what is always an entertaining game.
